Is this the end?

I hope not, but principles and all that...

Instead of sending my monthly word nerd glimmers, today I’m sending a quick yet profound dose of disillusionment. This is what I wrote in a SS note earlier today:

I feel sick to my stomach about this platform giving space to the vilest of the vile. This note feels flouncy, but if he-who-shall-not-be-named is still here in May, then I’m out. I’m tiny here, not even a speck, so I know that’s not even a ripple but I can’t be part of a business model like this. I just can’t.

I know SS is a business. I never believed any of the marketing spin in the early days about community and conversation, especially as it has always provided a platform for those I can only describe as cookers. But this is a new low.

I write on my own blog regularly, and it’s the same content (more or less) that I share here. I haven’t really bothered with the social media features of SS, but used it more as an email platform with SEO benefits that the other email providers don’t provide. I love email marketing, as a comms specialist of over twenty years it’s always been my favourite tactic, and if SS can’t step up and do the right thing by users, and humanity in general, then I’ll find an alternative email platform provider. There are many. And if this happens, I’ll let you know so you can continue to follow my adventures via your inbox.
